Time for Screenshot Saturday! Here’s some more updated screenshots from Skyling: Garden Defense. This week, we have some new rocky tiles for the Stone Ogres, a slightly adjusted palette, and some other tweaks. Well, It was probably naïve to think a simple, single word title like ‘bloom’ would be available. Turns out there are more than a few games with bloom in title. I don’t know how I missed them when I first picked that name. Oh well. Of course, all of these other games predate my own, so I decided to retitle mine. Luckily, it’s early enough for me to find something new.
After trying out name after name - annoying everyone in reach with my ideas and logo sketches - I finally hit upon something I like. Bloom is no more. Long live Skyling: Garden Defense
The game remains the same. Our hero is still a young skyling named Bloom, charged with protecting the garden from the onslaught of Blight Monsters. We’re just not naming the game after her anymore.
Yes, I couldn’t resist incorporating the cat into the new logo. I tried a few designs without one, but none held the same charm. In the menu screen, I plan to have the cat animated. Sleeping, yawning, stretching and maybe reacting to your menu selections. We’ll have to see what I can pull off. The cat needs a little re-draw first. I’m not 100% happy with how they look right now. Once the design of the cat is settled, I’ll animate the menu screens.

Music, sound effects, tutorial levels and elevators! Lots of new stuff has been added to Bloom. It’s been very exciting to see the game coming together, and there’s still more on the way. Check out the latest update video and let me know what you think!
We recently posted a video walk through of some Bloom game play on our YouTube channel. The game is still in a very early state, but there are enemies roaming around the test map and sleeping cats to annoy!
Bloom will be available for a host of mobile and desktop platforms. Got something that plays games? We want Bloom there!

The game now has a name and a first-pass logo. Bloom! A journey through puzzles, mazes and mayhem as you save the Sky Isles from an onslaught of Blight Monsters.

Things start to sprout wherever she goes.
When the Blight came in haste, to turn plants to waste.
She fought back like the thorn of a rose.
